We've been talking about CS5's Refine Edge vs. Extract down in Conversations.
Here is an example.......

Hi,
I know that you are the "best" extractor in the world, at least on this forum!!! But I Much prefer the CS5 version!
1 The edges are softer and more realistic.. especially the bottom tail edge!
2. The ear in the extract version is not in the correct place
I am sure with your skills you will get faster with the new tool....
PS I never succeeded in extracting

I have done a picture (not finished yet) which I have duplicated the cows face using a quick mask.
www.gografix.co.uk/temp/cow.html (ROLL OVER)
I used a normal brush for the main part of the face and a different brush for the ears area.

If you want the extract tool for CS5 you can get it here:

| So I have being playing with the refine mask ( refine edge) tool and I find it so much more effective than the extract tool by 100%. SO glad I finally figured out how it works. Fantastic for refining edges like hair/fur etc. Using it with Quick Selection tool and Quick Mask. Just been using it to remove background for a model with flying hair - never had such great results without a plugin before. |

Tommy, very effective. I like what you are doing.
I only have Elements but I do like its extract tools. The only limit is my patience. |

Finally.......Here is a page I've made playing around with the new CS5 tools over the last month.
I still have mixed feelings about Extract vs. Refine Edge. Depending on what is in the background, Refine Edge can get incredible details, but after all is said and done, I usually have to lower the opacity of the mask layer so I can paint things back in. With Extract, you can do it in one fell swoop (at least I can )
Anyhow.....have a look-----http://www.fixyourkitty.com/CS5/index.html

I am blown away. Timmy's tail is so much better at the bottom with the new tool. It did a great job on all of them. I know about curly hair and that was marvelous. I love her hair color too.
The content aware is a miracle.
I guess I have to eat my words about Photoshop Elements doing good enough job. Now where do I find the money to buy CS5? |

Kath,
You are the best! Love your work whatever the tools you use. And that is one cute little racoon. We have them here...live at the neighbor's...and they come over at night. We had to build a wooden bin for our trash to keep them from trashing it!

| I forgot to mention my favorite was Cooney. We don't have any here but I would love to have one live nearby. |
